Dome Glow: The Fourth Annual Jon Davey Memorial Celebration

Dome Glow returns for its fourth year, lighting up the grounds of the historic Buckminster Fuller Dome Home with extraordinary carved pumpkins, old movies, a fire, candy, and the glowing Dome itself.

Inspired by the late SIU architecture professor Jon Davey and his tradition of challenging students to create remarkable architectural carvings, Dome Glow celebrates pumpkins that go well beyond the traditional jack-o’-lantern.

Join us on Halloween for trick-or-treating and an evening around the glow, then return on Día de los Muertos as we place special emphasis on pumpkins created in memory of those who have passed.

This year’s carvers are invited to enter three categories: Memory Pumpkins, created in honor of someone who has passed; Pumpkins of Place, inspired by a building, landmark, structure, landscape, or meaningful place; and Extra Pumpkins, an invitation to take the traditional carved pumpkin a little further. Challenge yourself, add some flair, and get creative. Prizes will be awarded in each category.

A community pumpkin-carving event will be held Friday, October 30 at the SIU Craft Shop, with details to come.

Come enjoy the artistry of the pumpkins, gather around the fire, watch old movies, grab some candy, and see the Dome glow.

Free and open to everyone. No ticket required. Donations benefiting the Fuller Dome Home NFP are welcomed and appreciated, but never required.
