The Preservation Project

Campaign for the New Visitor's Center

The preservation of Buckminster Fuller’s iconic Dome Home in Carbondale is moving forward in three exciting phases. Restoration of the historic home is nearly complete, and we are thrilled to begin the next step—the construction of the brand-new Visitor’s Center, designed to share Bucky Fuller’s vision with the world.

Groundbreaking for the Visitor’s Center has already inspired long-time supporters and new admirers alike. Every donation brings us closer to making the Bucky Fuller Dome Home Museum and Visitor’s Center a true beacon for the enduring legacy of Buckminster Fuller.

What makes this project especially groundbreaking is the innovative building method. In partnership with Mighty Buildings, a leader in sustainable construction, the Visitor’s Center will be built using cutting-edge 3D printed panel technology. This eco-friendly approach reduces waste by 99%, uses 60% recycled materials, and provides greater strength than traditional concrete. It’s a bold step that perfectly reflects Fuller’s forward-thinking philosophy of sustainability and design science.

Mighty Buildings has generously offered to construct this landmark facility at a significant discount, making it one of only three 3D-printed buildings in the Midwest. Together, we are creating not only a Visitor’s Center for the Dome Home, but also a living example of the kind of sustainable innovation Bucky championed throughout his life.

Join us in ensuring that the Carbondale Dome Home and Visitor’s Center continue to shine as a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and Buckminster Fuller’s message for humanity—now more important than ever.
